Do the answers need full sentences?

No. One or two words, or a drawing, is fine at Grade 1. The thinking matters more than the writing here.

My child says a car is living because it moves. How do I explain it?

Movement alone is not the test. Ask whether it eats, drinks, grows or has babies - a car does none of those, so it is non-living. That four-part check works for almost every item at this grade.
