How to use this worksheet
The most common Grade 2 error is reading a ruler where only every fifth or tenth mark is numbered. Before starting, point at three unnumbered marks and ask what they are. Getting this right on a real ruler prevents a whole column of near-miss answers on the worksheet.

Why does a bigger unit give a smaller number?
Because fewer large units fit into the same length. Measuring one object twice - first in centimetres, then in hand spans - makes this land immediately and heads off a very common Grade 2 misconception.
My child measures accurately but forgets to write the unit. Does it matter?
Yes, and it is worth insisting on early. A bare '14' cannot be checked or compared. Asking them to say the number and unit aloud before writing fixes the habit within a few sessions.
Why does my child struggle with rulers where not every line is numbered?
Because they are counting numerals rather than intervals. Have them count the unnumbered marks aloud between two labelled numbers a few times; once they see each gap as one unit, the reading becomes reliable.
