How to use this worksheet

Read each question aloud before your child writes. At this age reading load, not science knowledge, is usually what slows the sheet down. If your child answers correctly when you read the question but not when they read it alone, the science is fine and the reading is the thing to keep practising.

My child thinks anything that moves is alive. Is that normal?

Very normal at Grade 1. Cars, fans and clouds all move, so movement feels like the rule. Point out that living things grow, need food or water, and make young ones - a toy car does none of those.

Does my child need to know animal names in English before starting?

The pictures and the common animal names in this worksheet are chosen to be familiar ones - cat, cow, fish, bird. If a name is new, say it aloud once and let your child repeat it; the worksheet then doubles as vocabulary practice.

Why does the worksheet keep asking about roots?

Roots are the part children cannot see, so they get left out of drawings and labels. Repeated practice with roots, plus one look at a real plant out of its pot, fixes it quickly.
