My child says plants eat soil. How do I correct that?

Explain that soil gives water and minerals, while the food is made in the leaves using sunlight. A plant grown in water alone, such as a spring onion in a glass, is a quick and convincing demonstration.

Why do the food-chain arrows keep getting reversed?

Because children read the arrow as 'eats' rather than 'is eaten by'. Say the phrase aloud each time an arrow is drawn and the direction becomes obvious.

Is this worksheet only about animals?

No. Grade 3 questions deliberately connect plants and animals - seeds spread by animals, food chains that start with a plant - because the link between them is the point of the topic at this level.
