What this worksheet teaches

• Put the events of a passage in sequence, using signal words like first, then and finally.
• Infer how a character feels from what they do, not only from what they say.
• Work out an unknown word's meaning from the sentence around it.
• Compare two characters or two facts described in the same passage.

How to use this worksheet

For inference questions, ask what the character did and what that usually means. Feelings are almost never stated at this level, and looking for the action is the reliable route to the answer.
