Why won't my child accept a tilted square as a square?

Because they learned the shape in one fixed position. Turning a paper cut-out while they watch resolves it quickly - it is a very common Grade 1 stage.

Should my child know 3D shape names now?

Recognising a ball, box and can shape is plenty at Grade 1. Formal names like sphere and cuboid usually arrive in Grade 2.

Is a square a rectangle?

Technically yes, but Grade 1 keeps them separate to avoid confusion. If your child spots it themselves, that is worth praising rather than correcting.
