What this worksheet teaches
- Add and subtract money amounts, including rupees and paise, keeping columns aligned.
- Work out change from a given amount and check that the total makes sense.
- Read a simple timetable or bill and answer questions from it.
- Read analog clocks to the nearest five minutes and use past and to correctly.
How to use this worksheet
Elapsed time is the hardest part of this topic at Grade 3, because children subtract times as if they were ordinary numbers. Count on in jumps instead - to the next hour, then whole hours, then the leftover minutes. Do the first question that way together.
Sample questions from this worksheet
- 3 hours after 2:00 is
- 2 hours before 9:00 is
Frequently asked questions
Analog or digital clocks?
Mainly analog, since that is where the reading skill sits, with some digital and 24-hour conversion included.
Why does my child get elapsed-time questions wrong?
Because an hour has 60 minutes, not 100, so column subtraction breaks. Counting forward in jumps to the next hour is the method that works at Grade 3.
Does this cover the 24-hour clock?
Yes, converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time is a standard Grade 3 skill and appears in these sheets, usually alongside a timetable question.
